NewsJoseph Altshuler’s practice Could Be Architecture was recognized as part of AIA Chicago's 2021 Design Excellence Awards. Their project "Mobile Art + Action Community Lab" was awarded with the inaugural Roberta Feldman Architecture for Social Justice Award honorable mention. The Mobile Art + Action Community Lab is a family of versatile exhibit display units that pop-up in public parking lots for cultural programming during COVID times. Various exhibit units are assembled from a fabricated kit-of-parts that includes interchangeable architectural “hats” that provide shade and identity, and “feet” that provide stability, pedestals for artwork, and bench seating. During 2020–21, the units went on tour throughout the Calumet Region including the cities of Gary, Hobart, Hammond, and Chesterton. Instagram: @couldbearchitecture
