About Alex
Alex Saavedra earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015. He worked at Vinci Hamp Architects in Chicago where he helped with residential projects, museum exhibitions, and institutional work for four years before applying to the Illinois School of Architecture. In architecture, he is interested in residential design and the exploration of light, materiality, and proportion in domestic spaces. As a result, he is currently enrolled in “I-House Design-Build Studio” (Fall 2020) where he and his classmates are designing a home and studio for a real client. Alex is a teaching assistant for Arch 231: Anatomy of Buildings where he teaches students the basics of construction, design, and digital drafting. Outside of architecture, he likes to spend his time travelling, hiking, cooking, and playing tennis.
